Hyannis Cape Cod

The area that is generally known as Cape Cod is a rather large peninsula that stretches out into the Atlantic Ocean off of the edge of Massachusetts. The beautiful area contains lots of beautiful towns and villages that are ideal vacation destinations for a few relaxing days or simply as a place to stop on the way to somewhere else. One of the largest of these villages that attracts a large number of tourists every year is Hyannis, Cape Cod.

The town of Barnstable, Massachusetts is made up of seven villages with the largest of them being Hyannis, Cape Cod. Its size and location makes it the commercial and transportation epicenter of the Cape Cod area and has been designated as an official urban area since 1990. Many of the locals refer to Hyannis as the ‘Capital of the Cape’ because of its size and logistic importance to the areas. Aside from this unofficial moniker, it also contains the Barnstable town offices cementing its position with even more clout.

Hyannis, Cape Cod has a lot of attractions for tourists, visitors and inhabitants alike. For tourists it is the primary link for ferryboat and airplane passengers. One a commercial level it is also important for freight that is making its way to Nantucket Island. Situated as it is by a large natural harbor, the ‘village’ is considered to be one of the largest recreational boating ports in the Cape Cod area and the second largest commercial fishing port in the area.

The village also has other attractions that draw people to its streets on a yearly basis. Possibly one of the most important sights in the city is the John F. Kennedy Memorial at the Lewis Bay waterfront that was erected in 1966. The JFK Hyannis Museum is run from the old Town Hall on the historic Main Street. The museum focuses on John F. Kennedy’s time spent in the town as well as his contributions. The village also boasts many other interesting places like the old National Guard Armory. For those who are more interested in shopping than in history, the village also offers a range of chain department stores but also a host of delightful local stores that offer a wide range of different items for sale in Hyannis, Cape Cod.

Situated as it is in the beautiful Cape Cod area the village is also visited as a vacation spot. With many beautiful guest houses, hotels and other places for tourists to spend their time, Hyannis, Cape Cod is an excellent vacation destination for anyone who wants to spend some time in the beautiful and historical village. There is more to Cape Cod than just the sandy beaches and balmy weather and Hyannis is proof enough of that. The unofficial capital of Cape Cod offer its visitors the hospitality they deserve with a dash of historic wonderment that makes it an ideal place to visit or even stay in.
